Choosing safer alternatives for skin and haircare to enhance your wellbeing

Our holistic wellbeing is comprised of many elements, and the physical is a big one. Being conscious of what you are putting onto your skin, and the effects this may be having on your health, is a big part of maintaining your overall wellbeing.

What you put onto your skin can have as big an impact as what you put into your body, through what you consume. Our skin is our biggest organ, and it absorbs so much of what we put onto it topically. To keep our wellbeing in check, we really need to be paying as much attention to the ingredients in our skincare and haircare products as we do to the ingredients in our food.

Paying more attention to what personal care and grooming products we choose is key to avoiding hidden nasties that could do us harm with prolonged use. Choosing products that use natural ingredients provides peace of mind that they are less likely to be harmful for us.

Thankfully, OC Naturals takes the guesswork and anxiety out of choosing safer options for products we use every day, developing healthier options with natural and eco-friendly plant-based ingredients. Their whole ethos is built around creating safer and more natural products that are kind to our skin, more sustainable for our planet, and Australian made.

I have been a fan of Nature’s Organics for years now, being a dedicated user of their eco-friendly household cleaning products and laundry detergents. I’ve always found the brand to be such great quality, budget-friendly, and accessible- being available at the supermarket. Given I have had such a positive experience with their household products, I was eager to give the personal care products a try as well.

And I am so happy to report that each and every product I have tried really has impressed! The scents are just amazing, the consistency and texture of products fantastic, and what I love the most is the lather and luxuriousness of each product I have tried. They just genuinely work, do not irritate my skin, and leave me feeling fresh and moisturised each time I use them. Read on below for my experience with each product I have tried:

Silky Smooth Shampoo & Conditioner with Lotus Extract & Organic Moringa Oil

To be honest, I haven’t had the best luck in the past with natural hair products. As much as I want them to work for my hair, I’ve never found a natural alternative that gives me the volume and shine that I love. My hair is very thick and long, and I need products that will leave it glossy, tangle-free and provide a bit of “oomph” without adding weight.

But I love this shampoo and conditioner duo because they genuinely worked for my hair. Other natural brands I have tried failed to lather up (which is a deal-breaker for me!), but this shampoo had such a great instant lather and really left my hair feeling fresh and clean. And the conditioner was not overly heavy and left it feeling so smooth.

Most importantly, once my hair is dry, there is absolutely no frizz in sight. It is bouncy, glossy, and just really feels lush to touch. I’m thrilled with the results, and for less than $4 per bottle, these have become my go-to shampoo and conditioner.

Soothing Blood Orange & Bergamot Hand Wash

This hand wash smells absolutely divine! It is so zesty and uplifting, and just reminds me of Summer! My children adore the smell too, and it is just another incentive to get them to wash their hands properly every time!

Being a mum to young children (aka: washing my hands a lot every day) means that my hands are usually in a constant state of dryness and generally looking like they should belong to a 90-year-old woman. Add on the constant hand sanitisation these days when out and about, and my poor hands are really feeling the burn! So, I am very picky about hand wash to ensure it doesn’t dry out my already fragile skin, and that it will be gentle enough on my children’s hands too.

This hand wash is so gentle, and after washing I can actually feel a layer of moisture once I rinse away the soap. And the smell just makes me so happy every time I use it!

Mango & Papaya Refreshing Body Wash
Rose & Patchouli Rejuvenating Body Wash
Coconut Creme Hydrating Body Wash with Organic Avocado Oil

I have tried out three different body washes from the range and oh my goodness! They are all just gorgeous. Each has a subtle scent that is not too overpowering, and they produce a great lather, leaving skin feeling moisturised and fresh.

I love that they have both plant derived and organic ingredients, and they are just so delicate on the skin. If I had to pick a favourite, it would have to be the Coconut Creme body wash. It is truly heavenly from the scent to the creamy lather; it just feels so luxurious and left my skin feeling super moisturised. If you tend to get dry skin, this is definitely a must.

They are also great value, coming in large pump bottles, and there is just no comparison for genuine quality, particularly from products available so readily at the supermarket for such a low price for what you are getting.

I absolutely adore the ethos behind this brand, and the fact that not only are they conscious of producing good quality natural products, but they are cruelty free, and eco-friendly as well. The packaging is made from recycled plastic, and able to be recycled again once the product is used up. It also gives me great confidence that OC Naturals provide Safety Data Sheets for each of their products on their website, so that you have access to detailed and transparent information about the safety of each specific ingredient.

Clearly so much thought has gone into the development of each product, from the conscious ingredients used, to the combination of scents. Each time you use a product it really feels like an experience in self-care- making better choices for your body in what you choose to put on it, uplifting your senses and relaxing your mind with the scents used, and nourishing your skin the natural way.
